Kirifuri-kogen Kisuge-daira Parking Lot Now Paid
Since June 1, 2026, the previously-free parking lot at Kirifuri-kogen Kisuge-daira (Nikko) charges ¥500-1,000 for cars depending on season (free Dec-Mar), ¥3,000 for buses, ¥500 for motorcycles; first 30 minutes free.
Wakayama's tourism federation lists five active closures across the Kumano Kodō network: Nakahechi (Nejiki-no-Sugi cedar–Shiomi Pass 捻木の杉~潮見峠, trail collapse after heavy rain in June 2026, no alternate route, reopening undetermined; plus the Mandara-no-michi 曼荼羅の道 between Nachi Station and Nachi Taisha, detoured via prefectural road 43), Ohechi (Nitta-hirami-do–Ansashi-hirami Daishi-do 新田平見道~安指平見大師堂, highway construction, through ~April 2027), Kohechi (Obako Pass–Kamigashi-ke ruins 伯母子峠~上西家跡, path collapse since May 2023, passable only via a steep ridge detour), and Kiiji (Kirime-oji–Kirime Station 切目王子~切目駅, bridge-replacement detour through September 2026).
Kyoto Police Partner on Gion Matsuri Crowd & Viewing-Area Management
DMO KYOTO and Kyoto Prefectural Police announced joint measures to improve the viewing environment around Gion Matsuri, addressing crowding at float-viewing and parade areas.
Beppu Ropeway Runs Night Service on Five Saturdays in August
The Beppu Ropeway (up Mt. Tsurumi) runs extended night operations on five Saturdays in August 2026 only — 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 August — with cars every 30 minutes from 17:30, last ascent 20:00 and last descent 20:30; cancelled in bad weather.
The Kyushu Olle long-distance walking course on Ōshima island (Munakata, Fukuoka) is temporarily closed; the tourism federation asks hikers to check current status before setting out.
