Reopened in Azabudai Hills 2024 — the maze of projection rooms returns, less Instagram-saturated than Planets.

teamLab Borderless reopened in February 2024 inside Azabudai Hills, near Roppongi — five years after closing its original Odaiba venue. It’s a maze of projection rooms (no water, unlike Planets), where artworks move from room to room and merge with each other.

What to Expect

teamLab Borderless Crystal Universe room

The signature concept: artworks aren’t fixed to one room — projected creatures, flowers and waves drift through walls and respond to your presence. Allow 90 minutes minimum, 2 hours if you want to revisit. Highlights: Crystal Universe, Forest of Resonating Lamps, and the new Bubble Universe exclusive to Azabudai. Phones encouraged; selfie sticks not allowed.

Consider This Instead

For the body-scale experience with knee-deep mirrored water, choose teamLab Planets in Toyosu. Different format — barefoot through water rooms — and remains the more physical of the two. Borderless suits art-museum visitors; Planets suits experience-seekers and families.

  • Children under 4 free. Strollers permitted but most rooms are dim.

FAQ

Borderless 2024 vs the original Odaiba Borderless?

Same concept, more refined. Smaller floor area but routing is denser. Some originals return (Crystal Universe); some are new and exclusive.

How long does Borderless take?

90 minutes minimum. 2 hours if you revisit favourites or wait for time-based works to cycle.

Is photography allowed?

Yes everywhere; selfie sticks are not. Some rooms are very dim — phones with night mode work better than DSLRs.
