Tohoku Shinkansen Hayabusa direct from Tokyo to Sendai in 90 minutes. Matsushima is 25 minutes from Sendai by JR Senseki line. Domestic flights to Sendai Airport are 70 min from Tokyo.

Easily — 25 minutes by train. Most travellers spend half a day on the bay cruise, Zuiganji Temple, and Godaido island, then return to Sendai for dinner.

Matsushima Bay (one of Japan's three great views), Sendai's Tanabata Festival, Date Masamune samurai heritage, gyutan beef tongue, and the Zao Fox Village.

One day for Sendai + Matsushima. Two days adds Zao Fox Village and Naruko Gorge. Three days lets you reach Tashirojima or the Sanriku coast.

The animals are healthy, free-roaming, and not chained or caged in the visitor area. Some critics note the rescue origins; most visitors find it well-managed compared to typical petting parks. ¥1,500 admission.

Naruko Gorge's autumn foliage and adjacent kokeshi-doll onsen, the cat-overrun Tashirojima island, and Akiu Otaki — one of Japan's three great waterfalls — with onsen town downstream.

Beyond the obvious draws, Godaido Hall, Sendai Castle Ruins (Aoba Castle), Kinkasan Island, Shichigahama, Shiroishi Castle, Ishinomaki Mangattan Museum reward travelers willing to step off the main route — local pace, fewer crowds, and a closer feel for the everyday rhythms of the region.
