Farmers' Market Alps Ichiba
Where Nagano's mountain growers bring their harvest straight to you
Tucked into Matsumoto, Farmers' Market Alps Ichiba is the kind of place most visitors never find, and locals quietly treasure. Growers from across Shinshu sell directly from their own hands: seasonal vegetables, fruit, cut and potted flowers, and vegetable seedlings, all sourced from the surrounding mountain farmland. The market even tends to the soil itself, producing a fully fermented compost called Tsuchinomori that completes the farm-to-table loop. A month-by-month seasonal calendar guides you to whatever is at its peak on any given visit. Can't make it in person? Produce can be ordered nationwide by phone, fax, or LINE.
When to go
The market opens daily at 9 AM, and arriving early gives you the widest choice before popular lines sell out. Each season brings an entirely different spread, so any time of year rewards a visit: let the seasonal calendar be your guide.
