Hatsuneya Garden

Tucked into the old merchant quarter of Kawagoe, Hatsuneya Garden occupies a ryotei with 150 years of history: a traditional restaurant so woven into the city's fabric that the renovated building carries an official designation as an important landscape structure. Today it operates as a restaurant, café, and wedding complex, yet the soul of the original remains: weathered timber, considered spaces, and the particular stillness that only accumulated time can produce. When to go

Hatsuneya Garden opens for lunch from 11:30 AM and for dinner from 5:30 PM, closing on Tuesdays. Arriving at the edges of each service (early lunch or just as evening begins) tends to offer the most unhurried atmosphere. Kawagoe's old town is lovely in autumn foliage and during spring, when the surrounding streets feel especially alive.
