The Aqua Garden

Perched within Beppu's Suginoi Hotel, the Aqua Garden reimagines the classic onsen experience for a swimwear-friendly crowd. Jet-massage baths, bubble pools, a walking pool, and a high-salt flotation bath offer something for every mood, all set against Oita's famously steam-laced skyline. Day visitors are welcome for an admission fee, making it an accessible afternoon escape even without a hotel stay.

When to go

The complex opens at 11 AM daily, so a midday arrival lets you settle into the pools before the evening rush. The real draw after dark is Aqua Dreams: a ten-minute spectacle pairing ten fountains with projection mapping and surround sound, staged several times each evening. Arriving just before the first evening show balances quieter pool time with the full theatrical finale.
