Seventy rare classics on the seventh floor: Himeji's best-kept secret
Tucked away on the seventh floor of the Hermes Building in central Himeji, Torino Museum is the kind of discovery that rewards the curious traveller. Its collection of more than seventy rare classic cars (among them low-production Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and one-of-a-kind celebrity custom vehicles) feels gloriously out of place in a castle town, and all the more thrilling for it. After browsing the gleaming bodywork, the adjoining café-dining Corniche offers lunch with views stretching towards Himeji Castle, a pairing that is quietly extraordinary.
When to go
The museum opens Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm, and is closed Monday and Thursday. Arriving shortly after opening gives you the quietest experience of the collection, with the morning light catching the coachwork at its best.
“Very interesting and curated car collection for viewing. Thanks to the lucky owner of all these cars for allowing the public to view!”— Zav Loong, Google review
