Kyoto Samurai offers something rare in a city full of costumed encounters: a genuine private lesson in Tamiya-style sword technique, delivered by a licensed sword master at the second dojo of the Tamiya-ryu Kyoto Genseiryusei-kai school. Whether you come as a solo visitor, a couple, or a family group, you will never be paired with strangers: every session is yours alone. Alongside the physical practice, instructors guide you through the etiquette and codes of conduct that governed samurai life, grounding the experience in cultural substance rather than spectacle.

When to go

Sessions run daily from 11:00 to 20:30 by email reservation, giving you genuine flexibility across the week. Booking the later slots on a weekday tends to keep things quieter and unhurried, letting you settle into the practice at your own pace.
